Summarize the purpose of your Genius Hour project in 140 characters. The purpose of our genius hour project was to raise awareness of neglected shelter animals and to make customers happy with the outcome of our shirts. Explain the process of your Genius Hour project. Be reflective. Be contemplative. Explain and describe your journey. (No Less Than Three FULL Paragraphs.) MAKKE wanted to raise as much money as possible in hopes of donating all proceeds to the shelter. We fulfilled our purpose and exceeded beyond what I had imagined. After finishing up the project, we were left with the feeling of having made an impact, which felt really great. This project has taught me a lot about teamwork and friendship, and the outcome of community service. Although there were setbacks involving when we could all get together, all in all, the outcome of the project turned out nicely. There was more work put in by some team mates than others, but that can almost always be expected in every group project. We received positive feedback from our customers, and everybody was really happy about how the shirts turned out. We each purchased shirts, dye, and I bought black paint for the logos. Kim dyed the shirts, and I painted the logos onto the front of each shirt. We raised a total of $300 and sold around 50 shirts. We sold to a wide variety of ages, ranging from 12 years of age to 60+. After we saw the animals at the shelter when we went to donate, we all felt that we had done something really special. The intention For Genius Hour is NOT only to learn, but ALSO to share your knowledge with others who can and will benefit from your learning. How did you share your learning? What do you hope the result might be? (No Less Than Two Full Paragraphs.) I shared my learning by talking about my project with others, and explaining how the positive feedback made me and the group as a whole feel like we made an impact. The results of our project were discussed among my family and they were very proud of the conclusion. They recognized that I had learned a lot about teamwork. The result of sharing the knowledge I gained from my experience with Genius Hour helped people to better understand what the project was truly about. My family members and friends knew that we put in loads of effort into the project, and by sharing my knowledge with them, I benefited from their understanding. If you could do anything different with your Genius Hour project what would you do differently and why? (No less than two full paragraphs.) I personally would have finished the shirts sooner, and would have given other group members certain jobs, instead of piling them onto 2 members specifically. It was sometimes difficult to make time for all of us to get together, because we each have a busy schedule and there are 5 of us, but we made it work. We could’ve been more organized with handling shirts. Kim purchased multiple shirts and dyed them, and I put logos on them, passed them out to people, and collected the money. There was one day where Kim and I stayed up until almost 2:00 AM working on shirts, and it would’ve been nice to maybe have more help. All in all, the problem was solved and eventually we all worked as a team. Reflect on what you did well during this Genius Hour process? Note your successes and accomplishments. (No less than two full paragraphs.) We raised $300 and donated the proceeds to the shelter, which I believe is a big accomplishment. We also got the word out about our shirts very quickly, and people lined up to order them. We worked very well as a team, and I believe we got our shirts to the customers quickly. When a customer paid for their shirt, we immediately made their shirt and gave it to them. Our hard work and accomplishments totally paid off after we got to visit the shelter and donate the money. After seeing the animals at the shelter, it really showed us that what we had done was something important. I will never forget my experience working on this project with my friends, and have made lifelong memories. Include any videos, pictures, presentations, or artifacts that will document your journey.
